In early January, Ubisoft closed a studio in Canada whose employees were able to form a union.

According to GamesIndustry.biz and several other sources, Ubisoft is cutting 55 employees at Massive Entertainment (The Division, Star Wars Outlaws) and Ubisoft Stockholm studios. The layoffs are part of a"voluntary career change program" launched last year specifically for Massive employees.

At the same time, the studios' production plans remain unchanged. Massive will continue to support The Division 2, including the release of new content and the Survivors mode, as well as work on The Division 3 and, likely, an updated version of the first installment in the series. In addition, the teams are involved in the development of the Snowdrop engine, the Ubisoft Connect service, and an as-yet-unannounced project.

Massive recently completed support for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and Star Wars Outlaws received a port to Nintendo Switch 2. With the completion of these projects, the company appears to be optimizing resources.

Ubisoft began 2026 by closing its studio in Canada, whose employees had previously been able to form a union. More than 70 people were affected by the cuts at that time.
