Amazon has announced that the main role of the Spartan and god of war Kratos in the upcoming screen adaptation of God of War will be played by actor Ryan Hurst.
The series is in pre-production in Vancouver, and casting is ongoing. Hurst, known for his roles as Opie Winston in "Sons of Anarchy" and Gerry Bertier in "Remember the Titans", is already familiar with the franchise: he voiced Thor in God of War Ragnarök and was even nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2022.
Rumor has it that Icelandic actor Ólafur Darri Ólafsson is in talks to play Thor — this will be his return to the world of Norse mythology.
Amazon has already renewed the series for a second season, even before the start of filming the first. Filming will begin in February, with the first two episodes directed by Frederik E. O. Toye.
