Kathleen Kennedy talks about the new "Star Wars" trilogy that Simon Kinberg is working on
Kathleen Kennedy shared fresh details about the new "Star Wars" trilogy that writer and producer Simon Kinberg is working on. The project, first mentioned in February 2025, has moved to the next stage of development — Lucasfilm will soon have a detailed treatment of the future saga.
"He's working right now. He wrote a treatment that we read in August, and it was very good, but it needed to be refined. We practically turned the plot upside down, and then worked for a long time on the treatment, which he finished just four weeks ago. This is a very detailed document, about 70 pages. We expect him to present something to us in March."
It is worth clarifying that a treatment is not yet a script, but a detailed description of the future film: a coherent text that outlines the key storylines, characters, visual style and main ideas of the project. Such a document helps the studio to evaluate the concept and make a decision about moving to full-fledged script development and further production.
Details of the new trilogy are still being kept secret, but it is known that its events will unfold after the ninth episode and it will be the first full-fledged trilogy in the "Star Wars" universe after the "Skywalker Saga".
"Dave (Filoni) and Linwen (Brennan) fully support the direction Simon is moving in. This trilogy will be a pivotal point for years to come and will take us far beyond the 2030s."
