Despite tens of millions of downloads of the developer's previous projects, the premium release has not yet managed to attract the attention of the audience.
On January 15, Vohenn was released on smartphones — a new game by Turkish developer Alper Sarıkaya, known for Sword of Xolan and the Manuganu dilogy. Unlike the author's previous works, which were distributed under a freemium model, Vohenn is a completely premium project without advertising or microtransactions. The game is available on the App Store for 449 rubles and on Google Play for 389 rubles.
Vohenn combines precise two-dimensional action platforming with exploration and non-linear progress in the spirit of Metroidvanias. According to the plot, the main character named Vohenn finds himself on a mysterious island, once protected by the forces of the elements, but now engulfed in darkness. To restore the lost harmony, he must restore the power of the shattered Harmonic Stone.
According to the Sensor Tower analytical service, the game's start was extremely modest. In the first day after release, the number of Vohenn downloads on Google Play barely exceeded ten installations. For comparison, the developer's free projects — including Manuganu and Manuganu 2 — are in the range of 10 to 50 million downloads.
This contrast clearly highlights the problem of the mobile market: it is becoming increasingly difficult for premium games to find their audience. Smartphone users are used to free releases with advertising and microtransactions, and not everyone is willing to pay for access to the game, even in the absence of built-in monetization.
