The financial success of the original film prompted the authors not to delay the production of the sequel.
Jason Momoa has confirmed that work on the sequel to “Minecraft in Cinema” will officially begin in late April 2026. The actor spoke about this in an interview on the Jimmy Fallon show.
According to Momoa, filming will begin “very soon”, and the script for the sequel, according to him, is better than the first part.

The development of “Minecraft in Cinema 2” was confirmed back in 2025, shortly after the release of the original film. The sequel is scheduled to premiere on July 23, 2027. Jared Hess, who directed the first part, will once again be the director, and he also co-wrote the script with Chris Galletta.
Momoa will return to the role of Garrett, nicknamed “Scavenger”, and Jack Black is expected to play Steve again. At the same time, the participation of other actors from the first part — Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Hansen and Jennifer Coolidge — has not yet been officially confirmed.
“Minecraft in Cinema” grossed over $958 million worldwide and became one of the highest-grossing releases of last year — apparently, it was this success that prompted the studio not to postpone the sequel indefinitely.
