The first episode of the series «A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms» premiered on HBO — a new chapter in the «Game of Thrones» universe, based on the novel cycle of the same name by George R. R. Martin.

The show takes place approximately one hundred years before the original series and introduces viewers to the wandering knight Dunk, who took the title of Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey), and his squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), who hides his true origins. The first season is dedicated to the novella «The Hedge Knight» and focuses on the tournament in Ashford.

The series has already received positive reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, «A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms» earned a "fresh certificate" with a rating of 87% based on 48 reviews. Reviewers note the chemistry between the lead actors, as well as a more humane and down-to-earth tone of narration compared to other franchise projects.

So far, only the first episode is available to viewers. New episodes will be released weekly on Mondays, with a total of six episodes planned for the season. This format is related to the source material: each season will screen one novella.

Earlier, George R. R. Martin confirmed that the second season is already in development and will be based on the novella «The Sworn Sword». In the future, the series has a foundation for continuation — according to showrunner Ira Parker, Martin, who wrote three novellas, has already shared drafts of about twelve more stories about Dunk and Egg.
