With exactly one week left until the premiere of the Marvel series “Wonder Man,” the actors are actively fueling interest in the project. In a recent interview, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley shared initial details about their characters and hinted at plot secrets that will play a key role in the story's development.
Abdul-Mateen II plays Simon Williams, a rising star dreaming of making it in Hollywood. According to the plot, Simon auditions for a film of the same name in the Marvel universe and desperately needs help to get the coveted role. At the same time, the hero has a big secret — superpowers that could change everything.
Ben Kingsley's character volunteers to help him. The actor returns to the role of Trevor Slattery, an unlucky artist familiar to MCU fans since “Iron Man 3,” where he pretended to be the Mandarin before being captured by the Ten Rings organization. In “Wonder Man,” Trevor meets Simon at his most vulnerable and offers his help, but, as Kingsley emphasizes, his character has his own secret that he prefers to keep quiet about.
According to the actors, unexpected twists and on-screen chemistry between the characters will arise from this dynamic, where each character has enough hidden motives and their own secrets.
Director and co-author of the series Destin Daniel Cretton, known for the film “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” noted that the on-screen duo of Abdul-Mateen and Kingsley became one of the main discoveries of the project:
“It’s enough to see them together in just a couple of scenes — and it immediately becomes clear that they work perfectly together. It’s a mixture of chaos, charm and a subtle sense of humor.”
The series “Wonder Man” will be Marvel's first premiere in 2026 and will be released on Disney+ on January 27. All eight episodes will be available on the day of release.
