Jon Bernthal spoke about the role of the Punisher in the movie "Spider-Man: A New Day" and dispelled fans' fears that the character would be "softened" due to the age rating. According to the actor, Marvel managed to preserve the character of Frank Castle, despite the PG-13 age rating.
Bernthal noted that he worked closely with director Destin Daniel Cretton and Tom Holland to ensure that the Punisher did not lose his toughness and authenticity when changing the format.
"Around the same time, a special episode about the Punisher will be released - I think it will be the most "high-octane" version of the character you've ever seen. And for me, Destin, and Tom, it was important that the Punisher who leaves the set of "Spider-Man" could appear on the set of this special episode without changes. I really believe we succeeded."
Bernthal first embodied the Punisher in the second season of "Daredevil" on Netflix, after which he received his own series "The Punisher", which lasted two seasons. In 2025, the actor returned to the role in "Daredevil: Born Again", and now, together with director Reinaldo Marcus Green, he is preparing a special episode "The Punisher" for Disney+. Its events will unfold after the first season of "Born Again."
Based on Bernthal's words, the premiere of the special episode is expected around the same time as the release of the movie "Spider-Man: A New Day", scheduled for release in theaters on July 31, 2026.
