MMORPG RuneScape Has Earned $3 Billion in 25 Years of Existence
RuneScape remains one of the oldest and most successful MMO projects in the world.
British studio Jagex has celebrated the 25th anniversary of RuneScape and announced that the total revenue of the franchise has exceeded $3 billion. This was reported by the UK Interactive Entertainment association, noting that the company approached the anniversary with more than six hundred employees and the most active audience in the history of the project.
Jagex CEO John Bellamy called this result a victory for the community as much as for the studio itself.
«It's hard to believe that a quarter of a century has passed since RuneScape started as a Java game in a browser. Today, we have the largest community in history, and this success is also their merit».
Congratulations also came from the British government. Minister for the Creative Industries Iain Murray noted Jagex's contribution to the development of the British gaming industry and expressed confidence that the studio «will continue to inspire and build worlds together with its global audience».
