This is a narrative simulator of a "one-and-a-half ton" truck driver on Lake Ladoga during the Siege of Leningrad. The player repeats the voyages of heroes who daily transported goods along a dangerous ice road.
Game director of the project, Sergey Gimmelreikh, said:
«"Road of Life" is a very personal project for me. Once it was just a short concept describing what a truck driver experiences on a voyage on an icy road during an air raid, when everything is mixed: people, equipment, ice, blood, space and time. My dream has come true – now "Road of Life" is becoming a full-fledged game. I want to tell the story of the courage of ordinary people who saved Leningrad at the cost of their lives. Those who went out every day on the terrible ice road, the only thin thread on which the life of my beloved city held for so long».
The project focuses on historical accuracy and the psychological pressure faced by drivers. The final version will feature five missions based on archival documents and eyewitness accounts, and five story characters.
The game will be available for free with the support of the Internet Development Institute.
