On the 82nd anniversary of the lifting of the Siege of Leningrad, the Russian studio Iskra presented the website for the "Road of Life" project. A demo version will be released in May 2026, with the full release planned for autumn.
This is a narrative simulator of a "polutorka" truck driver on Lake Ladoga during the Siege of Leningrad. The player retraces the routes of heroes who daily transported cargo along the dangerous ice track.
The project's game director, Sergey Gimmelreykh, stated:
"“Road of Life” is a very personal project for me. Once it was just a short concept describing what a truck driver experiences during a mission on the ice track during an air raid, when everything mixes together: people, machinery, ice, blood, space, and time. My dream has come true – now “Road of Life” is becoming a full-fledged game. I want to tell the story of the courage of ordinary people who saved Leningrad at the cost of their lives. Those who went out every day onto the terrifying ice track, the single thin thread on which the life of my beloved city held for so long."
The project emphasizes historical accuracy and the psychological pressure faced by drivers. The final version will feature five missions based on archival documents and eyewitness accounts, and five story characters.
The game will be available for free with the support of the Institute for Internet Development (IRI).
