Amazon's gaming division is changing its business strategy.
Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier reports on significant personnel changes at Amazon Games Studios: the head of the division, Christoph Hartmann, is leaving his position.
The event has become another signal of Amazon's strategy shift in the gaming business — from developing and publishing PC and console games toward more active development of cloud services, specifically Amazon Luna.
Hartmann himself has not yet directly commented on his decision. However, Schreier's phrasing indicates that this is a voluntary departure amid restructuring, rather than a layoff.
Christoph Hartmann joined Amazon Games Studios in 2018 and has headed the division throughout this time. Before joining Amazon, Hartmann was the founder of 2K Games, and his recruitment in 2018 was seen as a major move by the company, which sought to attract experienced and authoritative leaders to strengthen its position in the video game market.
