The Costco retail chain now prefers not to put RAM sticks and graphics cards on display shelves.

According to a number of sources, the Costco chain has begun removing RAM modules and graphics cards from demonstration PCs. These components are the easiest to extract from the case, which makes them the primary target for criminals. According to eyewitnesses, thefts have already been recorded in stores: one Costco employee confirmed that memory was stolen directly from a display computer.

The information first appeared on Reddit, where users posted photos of demonstration systems without key components. Although the images relate to one specific store, other visitors claim that similar precautionary measures are being introduced at other locations in the chain as well.

The situation is directly linked to an unprecedented surge in prices. In the second half of 2025, the cost of RAM more than doubled - by about 123%, and analysts do not rule out further price increases.
