Resident Evil Requiem has officially received an M rating from the ESRB, corresponding to ages 17+ and indicating violent content. The rating lists blood, gore, violence, strong language, and in-game purchases.
The ESRB describes Resident Evil Requiem as a survival horror game in which players, taking on the roles of an FBI analyst and a special agent, investigate mysterious deaths. Gameplay is presented in both first- and third-person perspectives, featuring exploration of various locations and battles against zombies and mutants.
Combat uses pistols, shotguns, explosives, and a chainsaw. Players can dismember and decapitate enemies; monsters and zombies leave behind bloody traces and body parts. Some locations show corpses with exposed entrails. Cutscenes include brutal scenes: a woman with her throat impaled, a man with his throat slit, a zombie with a punctured eye, bodies in a meat grinder, a woman with a chainsaw wound to the chest, and soldiers dismembered in combat.
Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth main game in the series, developed and published by Capcom on the RE Engine in honor of the franchise's 30th anniversary. The story takes place 30 years after the destruction of Raccoon City, shifting between veteran Leon S. Kennedy and FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, who is investigating bioterrorism linked to Victor Gideon of Umbrella.
The release is scheduled for February 27, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
