HBO and HBO Max Content chief Casey Bloys commented on the future of the series "It: Welcome to Derry" in an interview with Deadline. According to him, the absence of a formal renewal announcement does not mean that the project is "in limbo."

"Let me clarify: the project is by no means in limbo. On the contrary, it was a significant success for us. Andy and Barbara [Muschietti] are actively working on developing a story idea for the next season that they consider worthy. I will gladly give it the green light. One of the key difficulties is that we do not have a source text in the form of a book — the story has to be invented from scratch. So this is not limbo — they simply need to find a concept that inspires them. We will definitely do that."

Director of the original films Andres Muschietti, who together with his wife Barbara serves as the show's runner, previously noted that he conceived "It: Welcome to Derry" as a three-season project. The second chapter is supposed to take place thirty years before the events of the first season, expanding the mythology of the town and revealing the origin of the evil.

Earlier, The Hollywood Reporter reported that a potential continuation could be devoted to events connected with the massacre of the Bradley Gang. This episode was mentioned in Stephen King's novel "It" and in the first season of the series.
