HBO is gradually clarifying its plans for the launch of the Harry Potter series. In an interview with Deadline, HBO and HBO Max Content chief Casey Bloys said that the show's premiere is expected in early 2027.
"We have always said 2027. To be more specific, we are talking about early 2027. But whether that will be January, February, March, or April, we are not yet ready to say."
Filming for the series has been taking place in the United Kingdom since summer. The leading roles are played by Dominic McLaughlin (Harry Potter), Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley), and Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger). The cast also includes John Lithgow, Paapa Essiedu, and Janet McTeer.
The project's writer and showrunner is Francesca Gardiner, while Mark Mylod will direct several episodes and is among the executive producers. The series is being created by HBO together with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. Hans Zimmer will compose the music for the project.
The first season will consist of eight episodes. In total, HBO is planning seven seasons — one for each book in the "Harry Potter" series. After completing filming on the first season, the team will take a short break — approximately about a month, as reported earlier — after which it will begin work on the second. The tight schedule is due to the fact that HBO expects to spend about ten years adapting the entire story.
