The indie roguelike Gambonanza, which reimagines classic chess, will receive a mobile version. Studios Stray Fawn and Sidekick Publishing have officially confirmed a smartphone port of the game, while the PC version remains in development and has not yet been released.
Gambonanza turns a chess match into a turn-based roguelike with random modifiers. Instead of the usual goal of \"checkmating\", the player must capture all enemy pieces, combining gambits with various effects, board upgrades, and unconventional interactions between pieces.
The project is being developed by solo developer Paul Giovannini from Blukulele Studio, while the ATEO team is responsible for the adaptation for mobile devices.
Gambonanza does not yet have an exact release date; however, the developers expect to launch the game on both PC and smartphones by the end of 2026.
