HBO admits that the series "The Last of Us" may conclude with its third season. HBO chief Casey Bloys said this in an interview with Deadline, commenting on the future of the adaptation of a game by studio Naughty Dog.
When asked directly whether the third season would be the final one, Bloys replied: "It looks like that." However, he immediately clarified that the final decision remains with the creators: "On questions like this, we listen to the showrunners. So it is better to ask them.".
The third season of "The Last of Us" is expected in 2027, although an official premiere date has not yet been announced. After Neil Druckmann's departure, Craig Mazin remains the project's sole showrunner.
Earlier, Mazin noted that he might need not three but four seasons to fully tell the story. However, according to Bloys, the showrunner has not yet decided what would be better: one large final season or two shorter ones. This is specifically about choosing the format, not about continuing the plot beyond the events of the original games.
