Recently, a modder under the nickname epicplayer40 announced the Scent of Ashes project.

The creator of the modification intends to faithfully recreate the atmosphere, graphics, and gameplay of the Half-Life 2 version from the mid-2000s.

The developer of Scent of Ashes clarified that this is not "GoldSrc":

The main goal of Scent of Ashes is to roll back the final polished version of the game to bring back the feeling of the earliest Source engine. Everything is being created with absolute authenticity, while offering engaging gameplay unlike anything you have seen in the final version of Half-Life 2.
