The former Konami executive responsible for developing the Fox Engine, who also oversaw Metal Gear Solid 5 and the Pro Evolution Soccer / eFootball series, now heads the technology department at Delphi Interactive. The company is working on a new FIFA for Netflix, timed to coincide with the 2026 World Cup.

Julien Merceron previously worked at Konami, Bandai Namco, Square Enix, Ubisoft, and IO Interactive. He is now the technology director at Delphi, a California-based studio that, together with Refactor Games ("Football Simulator"), is "reimagining FIFA from scratch".

Delphi and Refactor are using a very specific approach, reimagining FIFA for the future. With small elite teams, we preserve the core creative vision and serve football fans. We are returning to the principles that made the great football games of the past.

Theodore Tang-Peronard, Delphi partner and FIFA executive producer, added:

Julien is known for football games that were loved for their fun and feel of play. His experience will help make the game accessible to everyone while at the same time.

The game will be released in the summer for the World Cup and will be streamed to televisions using mobile devices as controllers. Access is provided through a Netflix subscription.
