The digital store GOG found itself at the center of an unexpected scandal. The reason was a promotional image for the New Year sale in which users suspected traces of generative artificial intelligence. After a wave of discussion, the company officially confirmed: yes, AI was used — but the banner was never meant to be published at all.

In a closed Discord community, a store representative said that the image was a draft version created with AI tools բացառապես for internal needs. According to him, this material was mistakenly placed on the store's front page as part of the sale and was not supposed to be shown to the public.

The company acknowledged that it had made several mistakes at once: weak quality control over content placed on the main page, as well as an overly slow response after the problem was discovered. This is what led to a negative reaction from part of the community, for whom the topic of using AI in creative work remains extremely sensitive.

The GOG representative also explained why the company is experimenting with such technologies at all. According to him, GOG is a relatively small team without the resources of industry giants, and new tools, including AI, help to "level the playing field." The store uses such technologies mainly to create mockups and test materials in order to do more with limited capabilities.
