But players may someday get Haunted Chocolatier.
Recently, Eric \"ConcernedApe\" Barone spoke with IGN. The interviewer asked whether he had considered creating Stardew Valley 2 instead of releasing updates for the original game.
The developer replied:
Yes, I would like that. Honestly, I would love to do it, because it would be fun to work on a completely new set of characters, a new world — perhaps to capture again that same energy I had in 2012, when I was just starting work on Stardew Valley. There is something very exciting about the feeling of endless possibilities that a completely new world brings. I think it would be interesting for both me and my team — we would be very inspired by it.
ConcernedApe noted that creating a sequel is a difficult task, since many players are attached to Pelican Town and the characters from the original game — he is \"a little worried that if you make a completely new cast of characters, players might not like it\".
The creator also said that he spent some time developing Stardew Valley 2, but ultimately switched to the new project Haunted Chocolatier (though he did not rule out the possibility of returning to the sequel in the future):
[...] Another approach to Stardew Valley 2 might be to keep the same characters, but send them on a new adventure in the same world. But then it would still be the same thing, and I would again find myself within the same constraints. I still need to think about that. Yes... There was a period when I really did start working on Stardew Valley 2, but for various reasons I switched to Haunted Chocolatier. You could say that Haunted Chocolatier is a kind of \"Stardew Valley 2,\" but it is still a somewhat different game. So we will see.
