Netflix Unveils New Teaser for the "Sakamoto Days" Film and Reveals Premiere Date

Netflix continues to bring anime into the live-action film format.

Netflix has presented the second teaser for the film "Sakamoto Days" — a live-action adaptation of Yuto Suzuki's popular manga. At the same time, the Japanese premiere date was revealed: the film will be released in theaters on April 29, 2026. The streaming release date has not yet been announced; however, given Netflix's traditionally short theatrical window for its projects, the digital release is expected a few weeks after the theatrical debut.

The lead role — Taro Sakamoto, a legendary hitman — is played by Ren Meguro, a member of the idol group Snow Man. His co-stars in the film are Fumiya Takahashi (Shin Asakura), Aya Ueto (Aoi Sakamoto), Miyu Yoshimoto (Hana Sakamoto), and Mayu Yokota (Shaotan Lu). The film is directed by Yuichi Fukuda, who previously worked on the live-action adaptations of "Gintama."

The film's plot follows the original. After leaving the criminal world, Sakamoto leads a quiet life, running a small shop together with his wife and child, and has noticeably gained weight, losing his former shape. However, the past catches up with him when an old acquaintance appears on his doorstep with an offer that cannot be refused: return to the world of contract killers or die.
