Rayman series creator Michel Ancel appears to have confirmed rumors of a remake of the original game being in development. In an interview with Retro Gamer magazine, timed to coincide with the franchise's 30th anniversary, he mentioned that Ubisoft is preparing "something like a remake" of the first installment.

"There is a kind of remake. I don't remember exactly when it's coming out, but it will be in HD, and it seems Ubisoft will add more checkpoints to make the game a little less annoying."

This is the second mention of a Rayman 1995 remake in recent times. Previously, on January 22, Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch received an age rating in Australia.

In addition, insider Tom Henderson claimed back in September last year that Ubisoft is working on both a remake of the original game and a new installment in the series. However, from Ancel's words, it seems that it is more of a remaster with increased resolution and a number of improvements, rather than a full-fledged remake.

No official announcement of the project has been made yet. Ubisoft previously stated that the celebration of Rayman's 30th anniversary would be large-scale and long-lasting. Despite a difficult period for the company, the game received an age rating the day after the announcement of the restructuring, which may indicate that the plans for Rayman remain in force and the re-release will indeed see the light of day this year.
