Windows Central, citing sources at Microsoft, reports that the AMD CEO's statement about launching a new Xbox next year caused some surprise within the company: no final decision on a 2027 release has been made yet. This year is being considered as the desired launch date, but official commitments are still far off. According to the publication, the delay is not due to "hardware" but to the software side — Microsoft wants to perfect the operating system and user interface. As a result, 2027 is now considered only the "best-case scenario".
The key idea of the new generation Xbox is to maximize the convergence of the console and PC ecosystems. The first step in this direction was the portable Xbox, but there is still much work to be done. It is assumed that the console will launch in a conditional "Xbox mode" with the usual console interface, but if desired, the user will be able to switch to a full-fledged Windows 11 and run almost any program. Moreover, as on a regular PC, owners will be able to install games not only from the Microsoft Store, but also from third-party stores, including Steam and Epic Games Store.
