The company also told investors that it had to write off $200 million due to the impairment of Rovio.

SEGA has published its financial report for the third quarter of the current financial year. Despite the fact that some indicators were below expectations, the company outlined ambitious plans for the near future.

One of the most notable moments of the report was the write-off of about $200 million due to the impairment of Rovio — the studio known for the Angry Birds franchise and acquired by SEGA in 2023. In addition, the company's operating profit decreased by 54.6%, and ordinary profit by 51.8%. SEGA attributes this to the fact that some recent releases have not met expectations.

However, in the section on the strategy for the next financial year (which will last until March 2027), the company announced its intention to release four major projects based on its key franchises.

Among the already known but not yet dated projects are a new installment in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, which should continue the ideas of Sonic Frontiers. Total War: Warhammer 40,000, Total War: Medieval III, Stranger Than Heaven and Persona 4 Revival are also in development.

In addition, the company is working on a new project in the Virtua Fighter universe, a sequel to Alien: Isolation, as well as reboots of classic series — Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe, Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage and Shinobi. Separately, fans continue to wait for news about Persona 6.

At the same time, SEGA does not specify which franchises are meant by "core intellectual property", with the exception of obvious brands like Sonic, Persona and Virtua Fighter.
