Avowed Didn't Become the New Skyrim, But Outdid Major Competitors

Despite the fact that the new RPG from Obsidian Entertainment, Avowed, did not meet Microsoft's high sales expectations, the developers have reasons for cautious optimism.

Studio head Fergus Urquhart admitted that the financial results of Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 were a "slight disappointment" for the corporation. But, according to him, it's not a catastrophe, but a painful lesson. Although some players have already called the project a disappointment, data from the Xbox Wire blog shows a significant audience.

In terms of daily active users, Avowed outperformed a number of major releases. It surpassed Monster Hunter Wilds, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 on the list.

Moreover, Avowed became one of the three single-player games in the ranking, which is dominated by multiplayer projects like Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Grounded 2. The top three also included the new Doom and the updated The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

It seems that Avowed did not become the "new Skyrim" in terms of revenue, but in the Game Pass ecosystem it has taken a firm position among fans of Obsidian's classic approach to storytelling.
