Unreal Engine 5 is a complex topic not only for PCs, but also for consoles. This is clearly seen in the example of graphics analysis in the game High on Life 2.
The game has already been released, and experts have studied the performance of the console versions. Neither PS5 nor Xbox Series X maintain a stable 60 fps. On PS5, dips reach approximately 47 fps. According to Digital Foundry, Xbox Series X demonstrates a slightly higher average frame rate. A similar picture has already been observed in other UE5 projects, where the Microsoft console often works more stably.
A separate block of analysis is dedicated to PS5 Pro. PSSR upscaling is again causing problems in UE5 games, and High on Life 2 is no exception. In the settings, you can change the type of upscaling and completely disable PSSR.
The comparison of PSSR and TSR starts at the 17th minute of the video. PSSR reduces aliasing along the edges of objects, but makes the picture noisier and less clear compared to TSR.
Digital Foundry notes:
At this point, it becomes clear that if you implement PSSR in a UE5 game, the result will be worse than using native TSR. It seems that this is what we are seeing here as well.
