Women Play Games More Actively After 35, Study Shows

A new study by VK Play involved more than five thousand respondents.

Analysis of the VK Play platform shows that the female gaming audience is growing with age, especially after 35. Six out of ten female gamers use games to find a romantic partner, a third of them see cooperative gameplay as the ideal format for a meeting, and among those over 55, 72% immerse themselves in virtual worlds every day.

Young girls under 18 are less likely to be interested in games than their peers, but after 35 their enthusiasm is gaining momentum. In the 45–54 category, women overtake men in the frequency of sessions, and after 55, 72% of women choose daily gaming, compared to 66% of men.

Almost half of avid players — 48% — live in stable couples or families. Games contribute to the formation of relationships: 60% of female gamers emphasize their hobby in profiles on dating sites to attract like-minded people. A third use it as a screening — you can't go further without common interests. For half of the respondents, discussing games becomes the first step towards dialogue.

Half of the guys find girl gamers attractive, and a third feel interest and respect for them for their passion for virtual adventures. In response, ladies note: a third consider male gamers charming, and 13% consider them intelligent.

Games are integrated into romance: 60% of duets have tried joint gameplay, and women are more likely to see value in this. A third of women versus a fifth of men believe that this is an excellent date option. Such couples record bonuses: 44% find more topics for conversation, 35% feel like a close-knit team. Disagreements due to games are rare — only 6% of cases, making gaming one of the most harmonious joint hobbies.

Couples approve of the purchase of basic games (70–75%), add-ons (60%) and subscriptions (55–60%). Investments in donations (35–40%), cosmetic items (30–35%) and loot boxes (20–25%) are less popular. The ideal monthly limit for such spending is 5,000 rubles.
