The creator of the franchise recalled numerous adaptations and outlined the status of the new project.
Studio Science SARU, known for the anime "Dandadan", is preparing a new adaptation of Masamune Shirow's manga "Ghost in the Shell". The original author commented on the project and explained how it should be perceived.
According to Shirow, if we consider the adaptations from the point of view of directorial interpretations, the new series will be the fourth — after the versions of Mamoru Oshii, Kenji Kamiyama, and Kazuhisa Kise. However, considering all seasons and feature films, this is already the tenth adaptation of the franchise. At the same time, the author himself considers the upcoming work to be the beginning of the "second generation".
"Due to the change of team, it can be considered the first representative of the second generation of adaptations. The original manga is already quite old, so please treat it with understanding. Nevertheless, I sincerely hope that this will again become a pleasant visual experience in some form."
The premiere of the new version is scheduled for July 2026 simultaneously in Japan and Russia. The rights to the local screening belong to DEEP, the release will take place on Kinopoisk.
