Producer Roy Lee confirmed in an interview with Collider that filming for "Minecraft: The Movie 2" will begin in April in New Zealand. According to him, the team listened to viewers' feedback after the release of the first part.
"Many people said, 'Yes, just make another movie like that, but be sure to add the Ender Dragon.'"
Thus, the second part will feature the Ender Dragon, also known as the final boss of the original game.
Jared Hess, who directed the first film, will return as director. He also co-wrote the script with Chris Galletta. Jason Momoa will return to the role of Garrett, nicknamed "Scavenger", and Jack Black is expected to play Steve again. The participation of Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge has not yet been officially confirmed. At the same time, Alex is expected to appear in the sequel, as hinted at by the ending of the original film, but the actress for this role has not yet been announced.
The first part, released in 2025, grossed over $961 million worldwide and became one of Warner Bros.' biggest box office hits. The premiere of "Minecraft: The Movie 2" is scheduled for July 23, 2027.
