Square's Final Fantasy VII has surpassed 15.5 million copies sold, solidifying its status as one of the franchise's most successful releases. The game was released in 1997 and sales have since increased thanks to numerous re-releases and new platforms.
Between the mid-2025 update, when sales reached 15.1 million, and the current result, approximately 400,000 copies have been added, reflecting a steady interest in the classic. Of the total, about 10 million were sold on the original PlayStation.
The game became available on PC, iOS, Android, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and is included as a bonus for Switch 2. Re-releases allow new players to get acquainted with the project, and fans to return again.
In total, the Final Fantasy series had sold more than 207 million times by the beginning of 2026. Within the series, the original FFVII remains the benchmark: FF XV – 10.3 million, FF XVI – about 3.8 million, FFVII remake – more than 7 million copies.
