The legendary franchise returns in honor of its 30th anniversary with an unexpected creative team.
Production of a new anime series in the «Evangelion» universe has officially begun. The project was presented on February 23 during the final program of the festival dedicated to the franchise's 30th anniversary.
The announced creative team is of particular interest. Yoko Taro, the creator of NieR and Drakengard, known for his unconventional approach to storytelling, has been entrusted with the script and composition of the series.
Kazuya Tsurumaki and Toru Yatabe will direct. Tsurumaki is one of the key authors of the franchise: he worked on «The End of Evangelion», «Evangelion 1.0», «2.0», «3.0+1.0», and «Death and Rebirth». His return means that the project will be closely linked to the creative legacy of the original team. Yatabe previously participated in the production of «Chainsaw Man», where he was responsible for animation.
The music will be written by Keiichi Okabe, a composer famous for the soundtracks to NieR, NieR: Automata, and the Tekken series. Production is handled by Studio Khara, which worked on the «Evangelion» rebuilds, and CloverWorks. The latter is known for «Spy × Family», the Persona 5 anime adaptation, «Darling in the Franxx», and «Fate/Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia».
Details of the plot, format, and release date have not yet been disclosed. There is no trailer or even an approximate premiere window.
