Players criticized Nintendo for releasing Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen on the eShop - these are not remasters or remakes, but ordinary ports at a high price. Many claimed that "no one would buy it."
However, according to informant Stealth40k on X, both games have already become bestsellers in the Nintendo Switch eShop. Pokémon FireRed is in first place, Pokémon LeafGreen is in second, ahead of hits like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Mario Party! Jamboree, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are also in the charts.
Stealth40k notes that more Pokémon games have been sold on the Switch than on any other Nintendo console. Despite the controversy over the price and "lazy port," the demand for the classics has been huge.
The official release of Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen is on February 27, 2026, exclusively for Nintendo Switch. The games will be available on Nintendo Switch 2 thanks to backward compatibility.
