During an informal discussion of Resident Evil Requiem at Clovers studio, industry veteran and former head of Resident Evil 2 development Hideki Kamiya jokingly stated that he would like a mode in which you can enjoy the gameplay without scary elements. According to him, he likes puzzles and the combat system, but the frightening atmosphere is not at all necessary.
When one of his colleagues noted that such a mode could deprive the series of its main meaning, Kamiya replied with humor:
Listen, I just want to enjoy the puzzles... puzzles and fights. I don't need all that scary part.
This is not the first time Kamiya has spoken about his dislike of horror games. The day before, he again addressed the Resident Evil Requiem development team with a joking suggestion to make a "non-scary mode." In it, according to his idea, the zombies would look cute, the bloody splashes would turn into sakura petals, and the gloomy music would be replaced by a cheerful and positive soundtrack. Such a mode, according to the developer, would allow you to focus on puzzles and battles in a lighter and more fun atmosphere.
