What's Beyond the MKAD: Warhammer 40,000: Darktide to Get an Update That Lets You Leave the Hive City

On March 17, the cooperative shooter Warhammer 40,000: Darktide will receive a major update called Beyond the Hive, which for the first time will allow players to leave the confines of the Tertium hive city and explore the expanses of the planet Atoma Prime in the new "Expeditions" mode.

However, surviving outside the hive will be a serious challenge. The planet's atmosphere is poisoned, so characters can only be outside for a limited time. After completing the mission, players will have to call a Valkyrie transport for evacuation. At the same time, enemies are able to attack from any side — unlike the usual cramped corridors of Tertium.

An additional threat is created by the fact that every moment outside the city attracts the attention of monsters — including Chaos Spawn and other warp spawn. Squads will have to decide when to engage in battle and when to retreat, and think through tactics to survive one of the most dangerous challenges in the game.

The environment itself also plays against the players. In addition to toxic air, tornadoes and thunderstorms can occur on the plains. Safe zones are scattered across the map, but they serve only as temporary shelters, so teams will have to constantly move and act quickly.

Fatshark noted that the "Expeditions" mode will only be available to players who have reached a certain level. Newcomers are not allowed out of the city.
