A wave of layoffs hit the Canadian studio Warner Bros. Games Montréal, known for developing Gotham Knights, at the end of last week. The exact number of those laid off has not yet been disclosed, but several former employees have confirmed their departure through posts on the professional social network.
At least three employees reported completing their work at the studio on March 13. Among them are Seri Young, Associate Narrative Director, Camille Olivier Paquette, Level Designer, and Nicolas Pereira-Poisson, Associate Producer.
Pereira-Poisson directly stated that his departure was due to the cuts: after almost nine years at the studio, he announced that he had been caught in the wave of layoffs. In his message, he noted that during his time at work he managed to participate in various projects and roles, so he tries to perceive what happened without negativity. Young and Paquette did not directly mention the cuts, but also reported that they no longer work at the studio and are looking for a new job.
After the release of Gotham Knights in 2022, the studio's vacancies hinted that Warner Bros. Games' next project may include elements of a service model. At the same time, the company's gaming division is going through a difficult period: the release of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League from Rocksteady Studios did not meet financial expectations, after which management decided to close several internal studios and carry out a large-scale restructuring.
