AMD and Microsoft have shared the first details of a large-scale collaboration within the Project Helix framework. The focus was on the new version of the FidelityFX Super Resolution scaling technology — FSR Diamond.

AMD Senior Vice President and Head of Computing and Graphics Jack Huynh said that FSR Diamond was "deeply integrated" into the devkit of the new Microsoft console and initially optimized for its architecture. According to him, this is a long-term partnership with Xbox, which should provide "breakthrough graphics and next-generation performance", as well as maintain compatibility with the current library of games.

Although the technical details of FSR Diamond have not yet been disclosed, it is known that the technology is being created with an eye on neural rendering, scaling using machine learning, multi-frame generation, and advanced ray tracing processing. It is multi-frame generation that could become a key feature of the new product — previously, FSR could only add one additional frame between two original ones, while the new version promises a more complex system.

In this aspect, AMD is actually catching up with Nvidia: for the competitor, multi-frame generation has become an important part of DLSS since the release of DLSS 4 and continues to develop.
