According to Deadline, Kirsten Dunst has joined the cast of "Minecraft: The Movie 2" and will play Alex, the second key character in the universe alongside Steve.
Recently, Dunst has appeared more often in arthouse projects, but last year in an interview with Town & Country, she admitted that she would not mind starring in a sequel to "Minecraft: The Movie." Including because her children liked the first film, and the actress herself would like to participate in a project "where she won't lose money."
The main cast of the first part is expected to return in the sequel. Jack Black will once again play Steve, and Jason Momoa will play Garrett "the Scavenger." The participation of Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge has not yet been confirmed. Jared Hess will once again direct, and Chris Galletta is writing the script.
Earlier, producer Roy Lee told Collider in an interview that filming for "Minecraft: The Movie 2" will begin in April 2026 in New Zealand, and viewers will also see the Dragon of the End in the sequel.
The film is scheduled to premiere on July 23, 2027.
