Square Enix has enlisted Google to integrate Gemini AI into Dragon Quest X. The popular franchise will receive an update that activates the "Chatty Slime," a companion that gains a voice through AI, so players don't feel lonely.
Takashi Anzai from Square Enix explained that when a player communicates with Slime, voices are generated automatically. According to him, this initiates a conversation with the AI, which also analyzes information on the screen to react to in-game achievements, such as defeating powerful enemies.
Square Enix has not specified the limits of what is permissible in the AI's speeches, or if they exist at all. Dragon Quest X in the PC and console version will become a kind of experiment for the publisher. The use of AI for voice acting of characters and dynamic interaction with the world is not new; similar steps have been taken in Fortnite and Where Winds Meet.
