The studio was founded by writer Tom Clancy in 1996 and was at the origins of series such as Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon.

It was previously reported that as part of a massive restructuring, Ubisoft has stopped the development of the game direction at Red Storm Entertainment. The decision was accompanied by mass layoffs — 105 employees lost their jobs.

The last major project where Red Storm was the lead developer was Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier (2012). In recent years, the studio has mainly performed auxiliary functions, participating in the development of many Ubisoft projects.

According to journalists, at the time of the closure of the game direction, the studio was involved in several projects at once, including:

  • seasonal content for Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege
  • the next part of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon (code name Project OVR)
  • Brawlhalla
  • Beyond Good & Evil 2
  • unannounced tactical game in the Rainbow Six universe (Slice & Dice)
  • sound work for Tom Clancy's The Division 2
  • projects on the Splinter Cell franchise
  • concepts for Tom Clancy's The Division 3
  • support for the unannounced director's cut of Watch Dogs
  • another project at the concept stage
