Insider Kepler_L2, known for leaks about AMD products, has shared new details about the possible configuration of PlayStation 6. According to him, the basic version of the device may receive a 1 TB drive and completely abandon the disc drive.

Earlier, the same source estimated the cost of the console at approximately $760. At the same time, Sony could theoretically subsidize the device and release it at a price of about $699, as has already happened with previous generations. However, according to the insider, this time such a scenario is not guaranteed.

Users were interested in the configuration of the storage system and the presence of a drive. In response, Kepler_L2 clarified that his calculations include a version with a 1 TB SSD without a disc drive. This caused concern among some of the audience, given the rapid growth in the size of modern games.

The insider explained Sony's possible decision by a desire to reduce costs. In addition, he noted that support for neural network texture compression in the SDK for PS6 could significantly reduce the size of games — potentially even compared to the current generation.
