Actor Alec Newman spoke about the difficult experience of participating in the creation of Crimson Desert from Pearl Abyss. According to him, the five-year work on the role of Cliff became "a real roller coaster" due to constant changes in the plot and structure of the game.

In an interview with the Friends Per Second podcast, Newman noted that the recording process took place with varying intensity — from long pauses to periods of high load. At the same time, in the first year and a half, the actor did not even know the scale of the project, believing that he was only working on a demo version. Full-fledged recording began only almost two years after the start of work.

Newman emphasized that such secrecy in the gaming industry is commonplace, but such a long uncertainty with the plot is extremely rare. According to him, the script of the project has changed repeatedly, and the process itself resembled the filming of a series, where "the focus is constantly shifting".

Initially, the character Cliff was named McDuff, and the structure of the story was formed during the development process. The actor also admitted that he repeatedly insisted on working out the character of the hero and the plot, since "it is the script that determines everything — whether it's games, movies, or theater".
