Warner Bros. is not going to slow down in the development of the Mortal Kombat film franchise. While fans are waiting for the release of Mortal Kombat 2, scheduled for May 8, 2026, work on the sequel is already underway.
The reason for the discussion was the publication of producer Todd Garner, who posted a photo of the script authored by Jeremy Slater. The caption on the title page indicates that the script is "based on the game from NetherRealm Studios," which clearly indicates the next film in the Mortal Kombat franchise.
Given that the script is already completed, the third part may move into production faster and be released earlier than the sequel, which had to wait almost five years.
Additional interest was aroused by the logo on the title page. Fans noticed that it resembles the Mortal Kombat 3 logo from 1995. This suggests that the plot may be based on the events of this part. In the original, Shao Kahn breaks the rules of the tournament, using Sindel's resurrection to allow the forces of Outworld to invade Earth.
There are no official details yet. It is likely that they will start talking about the third film after the release of Mortal Kombat 2.
