The developers have revised the design and made the page more informative.
Valve recently announced the start of beta testing of the new Steam store page:
Over the years, we've added new sections and provided additional ways to find and learn about games, and in this update we want to focus on the integrity of the home page.
Each section features a unique set of tools and information that gives players a variety of ways to explore the catalog of games on Steam:
The main goal of this visual update is to strike a balance between the uniformity of interface elements and preserving the unique features of each section.
Valve has given players the ability to disable the playing of videos (micro-trailers) and animations.
The list of recommendations has also been updated: "added the ability to quickly view games in the list of recommendations without having to leave the page."
For the "Popular and Recommended" section, more detailed information has been added about why the game was recommended to the user.

Updated design, thanks to which the main page will be visually and functionally consistent with the rest of the sections.
