The increase in prices for game consoles may radically change the industry in the coming years. The base version of PlayStation 5 has risen in price from $399.99 at the start to $599.99 five years later, and this, according to analysts, is only the beginning of the trend.
Experts warn that the next generation of consoles may be even less accessible. Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter believes that the future PlayStation 6 is capable of entering the market with a price tag of around $1,000. This, he says, will inevitably lead to the fact that some players simply will not be able to afford a new device.
As a solution, Pachter proposes a radical scenario — abandoning traditional consoles in favor of cloud gaming. In his opinion, the industry will gradually move to a model in which games will be launched directly on TVs without the need to buy an expensive device.
