Director and Gollum actor Andy Serkis has confirmed that a new actor will play Aragorn in "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum." According to him, the team is already in the process of searching for an actor for the role, which was played by Viggo Mortensen in the original trilogy.
"I don't know what's happening outside right now, but I understand there's a lot of speculation. Let's just say we are indeed changing the actor for this role and are already looking for a suitable candidate."
Serkis did not name specific names. Earlier, insider Daniel Richtman reported that Leo Woodall, known for "The White Lotus," is vying for the role. This information has not been confirmed. It is known that Kate Winslet has joined the project, but her role is still being kept secret.
"We need to keep everything secret for now. I think it's no secret that the film takes place between "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings." This is "The Hunt for Gollum." It's not just about the physical pursuit of the character, but also about the internal, psychological search. We are just starting, and there is a long journey ahead."
Filming for "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum" will begin in New Zealand in July 2026. The premiere in foreign distribution is scheduled for December 17, 2027. Ian McKellen will return to his role as Gandalf and Elijah Wood as Frodo, but the extent of their participation has not yet been revealed.
