Otherside Entertainment has announced a change in the concept of its ambitious stealth action game Thick As Thieves, which is being developed by the renowned game designer, author of the Deus Ex and Thief series, Warren Spector.
Initially, the project was positioned as an asymmetrical immersive simulator with PvPvE elements, where players compete with each other while interacting with the game world. However, during development, the team decided to abandon this idea and focus on single-player and cooperative gameplay.
Thick As Thieves was first presented at The Game Awards 2024. The game is set in an alternate version of the 1910s in the Scottish town of Kilkern, where magic coexists with technology. In the original concept, players were invited to commit robberies, exploring the city, collecting clues, observing the behavior of characters, and using various abilities to bypass security — while competing with other players controlling thieves with the same goals.
Now, the developers have decided to completely rework this approach. In an official statement on Steam, the team noted that they enjoyed the single-player and cooperative modes more during development. As a result, the game will be focused on playing alone or in co-op for two players.
According to the developers, the new direction will allow them to "double their efforts" in developing dynamic stealth gameplay. The changes have already had a positive impact on the gameplay, making each game situation more intense — both solo and in cooperative play.
