Amazon has allegedly demanded a rewrite of the Mass Effect series scripts to make it "more appealing to those who don't play games."
This is reported by The Ankler: the new head of global TV, Peter Friedlander, wants to read the scripts of all projects in development before giving final approval.
IGN notes that the show is "on the verge" of a full order because of this, leaving production and viewers in limbo. It is not yet clear which elements of the script Friedlander considers incomprehensible or unattractive to newcomers to the franchise.
The Mass Effect series was announced in November 2024. In the summer of 2025, it became known that the project would be headed by many of the creators of the Fallout series from Amazon.
Casting details have also been revealed: a young man resembling Colin Farrell (30–39 years old), an alien woman with prosthetics (34–39 years old), an Earth woman with a parallel story, a villain of the Doug Jones type (40–60 years old), and a soldier-fighter (30–49 years old). It is unclear whether the series will be based on the BioWare trilogy or will tell about new characters in the universe.
