Superhero noir with elements of a crime drama suddenly turned out to be a comedy.

The series "Spider-Man Noir" with Nicolas Cage will be released on May 25 on MGM+, and on May 27 it will appear on Prime Video - a few days before the deadline for submission to the 78th Emmy Awards. This will allow the project to participate in the upcoming awards season.

However, it is not the fact of participation itself that is interesting, but the chosen promotion strategy. Amazon plans to nominate "Spider-Man Noir" in the comedy categories, despite the dark noir setting and crime story.

According to the creators, Cage plays an ironic and eccentric hero - "a spider pretending to be a man." It is assumed that it is this tone that will justify participation in the comedy category. If successful, the actor will be able to claim a nomination for best male role in a comedy series.

The series tells about Ben Reilly - a private detective and former superhero who once wore the mask of Spider-Man. After many years of silence, he finds himself drawn into an investigation related to the criminal boss Silvermane. The confrontation with the mafia gradually turns into an attempt for Reilly to deal with his own mistakes.

Viewers will be offered two versions of the series: color and black and white, stylized as classic noir. The first season will consist of eight episodes. There is no news yet about the renewal for the second season.
